Claude Desktop with Markup AI MCP

Overview

Connect Claude Desktop to the hosted Markup AI MCP server at https://api.markup.ai/mcp/ by adding it as a custom connector. Claude Desktop authenticates remote connectors with an interactive login (OAuth).

You’ll need a Markup AI account to continue. Sign up at https://console.markup.ai/signup.

Claude Desktop custom connectors authenticate with OAuth login only—there’s no field for an API-key header. If you need to authenticate with an API key, use Claude Code instead.

Add the Markup AI Connector

Add a custom connector

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Connectors.
Click Add custom connector.
Fill in the details:
- Name: Markup AI
- Remote MCP Server URL: https://api.markup.ai/mcp/
Click Add to save the connector.

At the time of writing, Claude Desktop may not automatically close the connector modal after saving. After clicking Add, the Markup AI connector is added to the list—you can click cancel to close the modal and continue.

Log in to Markup AI

The Markup AI connector appears in your list in a disconnected state.
Click Connect and click Allow Access in the browser window that opens.
After a few seconds, Claude Desktop updates and shows Markup AI as connected.

Verify

Start a new chat and confirm the Markup AI tools are available.

Test Your Setup

“Check this paragraph for brand-voice drift: [paste text]”
“How would a skeptical buyer react to this copy? [paste text]”
“List the available Markup AI agents.”

You should see Claude call Markup AI tools to analyze your text.

Troubleshooting

Confirm the connector URL is https://api.markup.ai/mcp/.
If the connector stays disconnected, click Connect again and complete the browser login.
Fully quit Claude Desktop (Cmd+Q on macOS) and relaunch if tools don’t appear.
On a managed device, check your organization’s policy settings for connectors.
