ChatGPT with Markup AI MCP
Overview
Markup AI is listed in ChatGPT’s Plugins directory. Install the plugin to use the hosted Markup AI MCP server in ChatGPT without setting up a custom connector.
You’ll need a Markup AI account. If you don’t have one yet, you can create it while you install the plugin.
Install the Markup AI Plugin
Open the Markup AI listing
Open the Markup AI plugin listing. You can also click Plugins in the ChatGPT sidebar and search for Markup AI.
Install the plugin
Log in to ChatGPT if you aren’t already, then click Install plugin. On a managed workspace, an admin may need to enable the plugin for your workspace first.

- Already have an account: Log in to your Markup AI account.
Then click Allow Access to authorize the plugin. After a few seconds, ChatGPT returns and shows Markup AI as connected.
Verify
Start a new chat and ask ChatGPT to use Markup AI. You can do this in two ways:

@Markup AIin the message composer, followed by your request. For example:@Markup AI review what I wrote. - Refer to Markup in your prompt: For example:
Draft a blog post about migrating birds and then review it with Markup.
Test Your Setup
- “@Markup AI check this paragraph for brand-voice drift: [paste text]”
- “@Markup AI how would a skeptical buyer react to this copy? [paste text]”
- “@Markup AI list the available agents.”
- “Draft a blog post about migrating birds and then review it with Markup.”
You should see ChatGPT call Markup AI tools to analyze your text.
Troubleshooting
- If you can’t install the plugin on a Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace, ask your workspace admin to enable Markup AI.
- If ChatGPT doesn’t call Markup AI, start your message with
@Markup AIso ChatGPT knows to use the plugin. - If you previously added Markup AI as a custom connector in Developer mode, remove that connector after installing the plugin to avoid seeing duplicate tools.
Add Markup AI as a Custom Connector
If you can’t install the plugin from the Plugins directory, you can add the hosted Markup AI MCP server to ChatGPT as a custom connector in Developer mode instead.
Set up a custom connector in Developer mode
Developer mode is available to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu accounts on the web. ChatGPT supports remote MCP servers only. Connectors authenticate with OAuth login; if you need to authenticate with an API key, use Codex or Claude Code instead.
Enable Developer mode
- Open ChatGPT → Settings → Apps & Connectors.
- Scroll to Advanced settings at the bottom and toggle on Developer mode. (On a managed workspace, an admin may need to allow it under Permissions & Roles.)
Create a custom connector
- Back on Settings → Apps & Connectors, click Create.
- Fill in the details:
- Name:
Markup AI - Description (optional):
Markup AI content agents - MCP Server URL:
https://api.markup.ai/mcp/ - Authentication: OAuth
- Name:
- Check the box to confirm you trust this connector, then click Create.
If the connector doesn’t appear, make sure Developer mode is still enabled and you’re on a supported plan. If tools look stale after a change, open the connector in Settings → Apps & Connectors and click Refresh.
