Google Slides with Markup AI Chrome Extension

Integration Guide

Check and fix your content without leaving Google Slides. The Markup AI Chrome extension adds a side panel to Google Slides that reviews the whole deck in one pass, highlights the issues it finds on the slide you’re looking at, and writes the fixes you accept straight into the slide.

Checks run against the brand standards your organization has configured in the Markup AI console — the same standards enforced everywhere else you write. See the agent documentation for what each agent looks for.

What you need

  • A Google account with access to Google Slides.
  • A Chromium-based browser — Chrome, Edge, Arc, or similar.
  • A Markup AI account. Don’t have one yet? Create your organization at the Markup AI console.
  • Permission to install browser extensions. If your browser is managed by your organization, an admin may need to deploy it first.

How it works with Google Slides

  • The whole deck, one review. A review covers every slide in the deck at once, including text in shapes, text boxes, and tables. You don’t need to step through the slides first.
  • Highlights follow the slide you’re on. Google Slides draws one slide at a time, so highlights appear on the slide that’s open. Issues on other slides are listed in the panel, and selecting one takes you to its slide and highlights it there.
  • Fixes go into the slide. A fix you accept is typed into the slide the same way an edit of your own would be, so Google Slides’ undo (⌘/Ctrl+Z) reverts it like any other change, and your collaborators see it as an ordinary edit.

Installing the extension

There are two ways to get the extension: install it yourself from the Chrome Web Store, or have an admin deploy it across your organization.

Option 1: Install it yourself

1

Open the Chrome Web Store listing

Open the Markup AI extension on the Chrome Web Store.

2

Add the extension

Select the install button (Add to Chrome in Chrome; other browsers label it differently, for example Get in Edge), then confirm with Add extension. In Edge, select Allow extensions from other stores in the banner first if it appears.

3

Pin it to the toolbar

Pin Markup AI from your browser’s Extensions menu so the icon stays visible.

Option 2: Deploy to your organization (admins)

If you manage Chrome through the Google Admin console, you can force-install the extension for your users:

1

Open Apps & extensions

Go to Devices → Chrome → Apps & extensions → Users & browsers.

2

Select the organizational unit

Select the organizational unit to deploy to.

3

Add the extension by ID

Select + (Add) → Add Chrome app or extension by ID and enter the extension ID:

abfamcopbgmiehgnnjchnkaikmejpgag
4

Set the installation policy

Set the installation policy to Force install (or Force install + pin to toolbar), then Save.

Deployed settings can take some time to reach managed browsers. For full details, see Google’s guide to installing apps and extensions.

Use it in a presentation

  1. Open a presentation in the Google Slides editor.
  2. Open the side panel by selecting the Markup AI icon (from the toolbar or your pinned extensions) or the floating Markup AI button in the presentation.
  3. Select Log In and sign in with your account credentials, through Google or Microsoft authentication, or your organization’s single sign-on. Your sign‑in persists for future sessions.

Two ways to review

The panel comes in one of two versions, depending on whether your organization uses the Style Agent. Both check against the same brand standards and both work the same way with slides and fixes. They differ in how you start a review and how the results are organized.

  • Organizations without the Style Agent — The panel offers Start Review. Select it and the extension reviews the whole deck in one pass. Findings come back as a single prioritized list rather than a list per agent, so you work through what matters most first. Use View as to switch between Focus Areas, Priority Groups, and Document Order, and filter by priority level to narrow the list.
  • Organizations with the Style Agent — The panel lists your organization’s agents. Choose the ones you want to run, then select Check. Results are grouped by agent, each with its own score, and the panel shows the deck’s overall Content Risk level. Issues that have no one-click fix offer Mark as Resolved so you can clear them once you’ve handled them yourself.

Reviewing and resolving issues

Each issue shows the flagged text, why it was flagged, and the suggested fix when there is one. Select an issue to jump to its slide and see the text highlighted there.

For each issue you can:

  • Apply the fix — replace the flagged text with the suggested rewrite. The extension moves to the issue’s slide, selects the flagged text, and types the fix in place. If the deck changed since the review ran, the panel asks you to run it again before applying, so a fix never lands in the wrong place.
  • Undo a fix — a fix you’ve applied can be reverted from the issue: the extension types the original text back and the issue returns to the list. A fix that only deleted text isn’t offered this way; use Google Slides’ undo instead.
  • Dismiss it — set an issue aside without changing the deck.

Results are saved per presentation, so you can close and reopen the panel, or move between slides, without losing your place. Opening a different presentation starts a fresh review — results don’t carry over between decks.

View-only decks

If you can view or comment on a deck but not edit it, the panel shows a View-only access notice. You can still run a review and step through the issues on each slide, but fixes can’t be applied. Ask the deck’s owner for edit access if you need to apply changes.

The same applies to a deck opened in present or preview mode: open it in the editor to apply fixes.

FAQ

  • Can I choose which agents run? If your organization uses the Style Agent, yes: pick them from the list before you select Check. Otherwise the review uses the standards your organization has configured in the Markup AI console, and there’s nothing to pick.
  • Why did applying a fix ask me to re-scan? The deck changed after the review ran — your own edits or a collaborator’s — and the extension couldn’t confirm where the flagged text now sits. Run the review again and apply the fix from the fresh results.
  • Why can’t a particular fix be applied automatically? Some suggestions insert new text rather than replacing flagged text, and a few can’t be placed reliably on a slide. The panel tells you when that’s the case; make the edit on the slide yourself and dismiss the issue.
  • Do I need to update the extension? No. When a new version is released, your browser updates the extension automatically — you’ll always be on the latest version.
  • The panel shows “Unable to connect to page” — what should I do? Reload the presentation and the extension will reconnect.

Known limitations

  • Runs in Chromium browsers (Chrome, Edge, Arc) — not Safari or Firefox.
  • Speaker notes are not checked.
  • Comments and suggestions aren’t available; the only way to act on a slide is to apply a fix.
  • Suggestions that insert new text, rather than replacing flagged text, can’t be applied automatically.
  • Checks cover text content; images, charts, and other non-text elements aren’t analyzed.
