# LibreChat with Markup AI MCP

> Connect LibreChat to the hosted Markup AI MCP server at api.markup.ai/mcp/ by adding it to librechat.yaml.

## Overview

Enable Markup AI agents in LibreChat by adding the hosted MCP server at `https://api.markup.ai/mcp/` to your `librechat.yaml`.

## Get Your API Key

1. Visit [https://console.markup.ai/signup](https://console.markup.ai/signup) and create an account.
2. Copy your API key from the console.

> **Tip**
>
> Store your key securely. LibreChat supports `${VAR}` environment-variable placeholders in `headers`, so you can reference an env var instead of pasting the key.

## Configure `librechat.yaml` (MCP Server)

Add the Markup AI server under the top-level `mcpServers` key. Merge with any existing entries.

mcpServers:
  markup-ai:
    type: streamable-http
    url: https://api.markup.ai/mcp/
    headers:
      Authorization: "Bearer ${MARKUP_AI_API_KEY}"
```

Notes:

* Keep YAML valid and merge with existing `mcpServers` entries.
* `streamable-http` is the recommended production transport (stateless, multi-user).
* Prefer to log in instead of using a key? Replace `headers` with an `oauth:` block (`authorization_url`, `token_url`, `client_id`, `client_secret`, `redirect_uri`, `scope`) and users are prompted to authenticate.

## Restart & Verify

1. Restart LibreChat (or your container/service) to load the updated config.
2. Open a new chat and confirm the Markup AI tools are available or check the console logs.

## Test Your Setup

* "Check this paragraph for brand-voice drift: \[paste text]"
* "List the available Markup AI agents."

You should see LibreChat call Markup AI tools to analyze your text.

## Troubleshooting

* Ensure your YAML is valid (check indentation and quotes).
* Verify the `Authorization` header is set and your API key is correct.
* Confirm the URL is `https://api.markup.ai/mcp/`.
* Fully restart LibreChat after changing configuration.
