# Claude Desktop with Markup AI MCP

> Connect Markup AI from Claude's connector directory and run content agents in your chats.

## Overview

Markup AI is listed in Claude's **connector directory**. Connect it to use the hosted Markup AI MCP server in Claude Desktop and on claude.ai without setting up a custom connector.

You'll need a Markup AI account. If you don't have one yet, you can create it while you connect.

## Connect Markup AI

#### Open the Markup AI listing

Open the [Markup AI directory listing](https://claude.ai/directory/markup-ai). You can also open Claude → **Settings → Connectors**, click **Browse connectors**, and search for `Markup AI`.

#### Connect

Log in to Claude if you aren't already, then click **Connect**. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner may need to enable the connector for your organization first.

#### Sign up or log in to Markup AI

After you click **Connect**, Claude redirects you to Markup AI.

* **New to Markup AI:** Create your Markup AI account.
* **Already have an account:** Log in to your Markup AI account.

Then click **Allow Access** to authorize the connector. After a few seconds, Claude returns and shows Markup AI as connected.

#### Verify

Start a new chat and ask Claude to use Markup AI. For example: `Draft a blog post about migrating birds and then review it with Markup AI`.

## Test Your Setup

* "Check this paragraph for brand-voice drift with Markup AI: \[paste text]"
* "Use Markup AI to show how a skeptical buyer would react to this copy: \[paste text]"
* "List the available Markup AI agents."
* "Draft a blog post about migrating birds and then review it with Markup AI."

You should see Claude call Markup AI tools to analyze your text.

## Troubleshooting

* If you can't connect on a Team or Enterprise plan, ask your organization owner to enable Markup AI.
* If Claude doesn't call Markup AI, click the **+** button in the message composer, open **Connectors**, and confirm Markup AI is turned on for the chat. Then mention Markup AI in your prompt.
* If you previously added Markup AI as a custom connector, remove that connector after connecting from the directory to avoid seeing duplicate tools.
* Fully quit Claude Desktop (Cmd+Q on macOS) and relaunch if tools don't appear.

## Add Markup AI as a Custom Connector

If you can't connect from the directory, you can add the hosted Markup AI MCP server to Claude as a custom connector instead.

#### Set up a custom connector

> **Note**
>
> Custom connectors authenticate with OAuth login only—there's no field for an API-key header. If you need to authenticate with an API key, use [Claude Code](/mcp/claude-code-mcp) instead.

#### Add a custom connector

1. Open Claude Desktop → **Settings → Connectors**.
2. Click **Add custom connector**.
3. Fill in the details:
   * Name: `Markup AI`
   * Remote MCP Server URL: `https://api.markup.ai/mcp/`
4. Click **Add** to save the connector.

> **Info**
>
> At the time of writing, Claude Desktop may not automatically close the connector modal after saving. After clicking **Add**, the Markup AI connector is added to the list—you can click cancel to close the modal and continue.

#### Log in to Markup AI

1. The Markup AI connector appears in your list in a disconnected state.
2. Click **Connect** and click **Allow Access** in the browser window that opens.
3. After a few seconds, Claude Desktop updates and shows Markup AI as connected.

#### Verify

Start a new chat and confirm the Markup AI tools are available.

If the connector stays disconnected, confirm the URL is `https://api.markup.ai/mcp/`, then click **Connect** again and complete the browser login. On a managed device, check your organization's policy settings for connectors.
