# Claude Code with Markup AI MCP

> Connect Claude Code to the hosted Markup AI MCP server at api.markup.ai/mcp/ and run content agents from the Claude CLI.

Coding

## Overview

Connect Claude Code to the hosted Markup AI MCP server at `https://api.markup.ai/mcp/`. Add the remote server and authenticate with either an interactive login or an API key.

You'll need a Markup AI account to continue. Sign up at [https://console.markup.ai/signup](https://console.markup.ai/signup).

## Add the Markup AI MCP Server to Claude Code

#### Log in with OAuth

#### Add the server

Add the Markup AI server over HTTP with the Claude CLI:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http markup-ai https://api.markup.ai/mcp/
```

#### Authenticate

1. Open Claude Code and start a new session.
2. Run the command to view your MCP servers and authenticate:
   ```
   /mcp
   ```
3. Select the `markup-ai` server and follow the browser prompt to log in to your Markup AI account.

#### Use an API key

#### Get your API key

1. Visit [https://console.markup.ai/signup](https://console.markup.ai/signup) and create an account.
2. Copy your API key from the console.

> **Info**
>
> Store your key securely. Prefer environment variables or a secrets manager over committing keys to code.

#### Add the server with an Authorization header

Pass your key as a Bearer token:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http markup-ai https://api.markup.ai/mcp/ \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
```

#### Verify

1. Open Claude Code and start a new session.
2. Run `/mcp` and confirm the `markup-ai` server is listed and healthy.

> **Note**
>
> Use either OAuth or an API-key header—not both. If you set an `Authorization` header and the server rejects it, Claude Code reports a failure rather than falling back to OAuth.

## Manage Your MCP Servers (Claude CLI)

Use the Claude CLI to manage configured servers:

```bash
# List all configured servers
claude mcp list
# Get details for a specific server
claude mcp get markup-ai
# Remove a server
claude mcp remove markup-ai
```

## Test Your Setup

* "Check this announcement for brand-voice drift: \[paste text]"
* "Flag any hard-to-read sentences in this doc and rewrite them: \[paste text]"
* "List the available Markup AI agents."

## Troubleshooting

* Confirm the server URL is `https://api.markup.ai/mcp/`.
* If using an API key, ensure it's sent as `Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY` with no extra spaces or quotes.
* Some clients require a full restart to load new MCP servers.
